Its All Good

Its All Good

Why are we so quick to question God when something goes wrong in our lives? We don’t question the good things, only the bad. We immediately ask “why is this happening or what is going on?” Did you ever think He might ask the same of us? He’s known us from the beginning. He formed our inward parts, covered us in our mother’s womb, has always wanted the best for us, and He does have a plan for us. Yet … look at the Hebrews after they were brought out of Egypt. God freed them from their bondage, performed miracle after miracle for them, was bringing them into a land flowing with milk and honey, and what’s the first thing they did when left on their own for a few days … they build a golden idol! He had a plan for them but instead they went off in their own direction! Intentional or mistakenly, how many times have we veered off the path He has for us causing Him to say, “What in the world are they doing now?” He is the potter, we are the clay, vessels for His use. Maybe we don’t always understand His plan for us, maybe we veer off to pursue our own plans, maybe some of the troubles we have are our own fault, and maybe sometimes stuff just happens, but He is still in control and can turn a bad situation into good. Maybe not what we want or expect, but what is best and perhaps with long reaching results we may never see. We aren’t meant to understand everything or why it happens but we are meant to have faith in Him. We can take heart in Romans 8:28, “And all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” If you love God and Jesus is your Lord and Savior, then you are called according to His purpose, and no matter the outcome of any situation, it all will be good!

I Am Watching You

I Am Watching You

Paul’s exhortation in his first letter to Timothy isn’t just for Timothy, it is for all Christians throughout the ages. “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” Let me add, let no one despise your older age either. Young or old, we are to be examples. Remember Sting’s stalker song “I’ll Be Watching You?” Well, the world may not be stalking us, but they are watching and waiting to point the disparaging finger at us. We have to be aware of what we say and how we say it. Whether in person or on social media, vulgar speech, harsh criticism of prominent people, or rumoring is not honoring to the name of Jesus. Does how we live our lives agree with what we preach? We may be in church every Sunday, but where are we seen the rest of the week? Do people see our faith in times of crisis or only when everything is going smoothly? Young or old, temptation is always trying to snare us one way or another. Can the world criticize your purity? Jesus showed us selfless love. He set the example in all things. Let us do our best to do the same and encourage each other so that even though they are watching’ us, they will only see Jesus!

Manana

Manana

Did you hear about Arnold Schwarznegger’s new movie “the Procrastinator?” Can’t wait to hear his revamped trademark line, “I’ll be baaack, later, tomorrow, maybe the next day.” Procrastination isn’t necessarily a bad thing, for some of us, but it can be. When Paul was brought before Felix and started telling him about Jesus, Felix stopped him saying, “Yeah, okay, that;s great Paul, we’ll talk about this later.” How many people have done that to you when you tried to tell them about Jesus? How many people have you done that to? How many people are not in heaven today because they kept putting off getting serious with God? Or they thought all their good deeds, kind gestures, and sincerity was all they needed to do? You can’t make up your own rules, it’s not your ballgame. Who misses a pitch and says that strike doesn’t count because I really meant to hit the ball? It’s God’s creation, He made the few simple rules to follow, and without delay, people need to obey them. Don’t procrastinate, don’t make excuses, don’t write your own rule book to spiritual piety. Believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for your sins. Accept Him as your Lord and Savior, repent of your sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus, and then, out of love and gratitude, do good works. That’s what His rule book tells us to do, that’s what we need to do.

No Fear

No Fear

These are troubling times, who knows what tomorrow is going to bring? But ya know, even in happy times, who knows what tomorrow is going to bring? Life is full of uncertainty, things happen, the earth quakes, volcanoes erupt, rivers overflow, tornadoes destroy! But as Jeremiah wrote, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the water … and will not fear when the heat comes.” Well, the heat is coming’! Are your roots firmly planted in the Lord? The Psalmist encourages, “Blessed be the man who fears the Lord, who delights in His commandments.” That fear is a Godly reverence that inspires us to be obedient to His Word and He will bless those that do. Yeah, it could get pretty rough, our Florida lay back lifestyle may take a big hit, but if you are firmly rooted in Him, you have nothing to fear. Want a little encouragement while you’re wandering around the house in lock-down? Ask Alexa to play “In Christ Alone” for you. Turn it up loud, sing the words, really grasp the lyrics. “In Christ alone, my hope is found, He is my light, my strength my song … No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me!”

Tribulations

Tribulations

As the church of Rome was sharing Paul”s letter, I’m sure they were all smiles as they read about having peace with God through Jesus and rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God, but then they got to the part that said, “we also glory in tribulations!” Whoa! Why in the world should we be happy about tribulations? There’s a foreign thought to the generation that needs crying rooms in colleges and every team member getting a trophy just for showing up! Trying times do produce tough people, as many are about to find out. Tribulation does produce patience and tribulation and patience produces character, something the world is in dire need of these days. These are not the best of times, they are not yet the worst of times, but they are times when we can let the Lord shine through us. We can share His loving kindness, His hope, and the patience and character He is developing in us with others. First with those we are in isolation with and then with anyone we may bump into (not literally) while we are out hunting and gathering. Look at this time of tribulation as a growing lesson. Ask the Lord to strengthen you. Thank the Lord for the patience and character He is building in you and then, suck it up and open another can of Spaghetti O’s!

Come Home See Less

Come Home See Less

I think people have a tendency to gloss over the parable Jesus told of the prodigal son. Maybe it hits harder to home more than they like, but this is one of the most important parables to fully grasp. The younger son, full of himself, takes off on his own to live the good life while squandering his inheritance. At one time or another, who hasn’t thought they knew it all, and so what if I’m a little rowdy, I’m not hurting anybody but myself. Exactly! Now maybe we never got to the point of eating slop (or maybe we have), but every self indulgent high will be followed by a sorrowful low. The Prodigal came to his senses and knew he had to change and was more than willing to do so. He would repent and ask his father if he could be one of his servants. Change,we all can change, it’s a determined choice and we are all capable of it. Humbly he approached his father, not knowing what to expect, and I’m sure he was amazed at his father’s reaction. Jesus told this parable for us to understand our Heavenly Father’s reaction to a repentant heart. He knows everything we’ve done, every gutter we’ve run in, He knows our failings, and He still wants us to come home. He wants to give us a new robe, a ring, new sandals, and to kill the flatted calf. Some angels have a great job, they’re waiting around for prodigals to come home so they can rejoice! God opened the tomb so Jesus could open the door. He’s waiting for you, time to come home!
